Know What to Ask Before You Decide
Aesthetic, regenerative, and reconstructive treatments can vary considerably in technique, evidence, expected results, recovery, and clinical risk. A thorough consultation should help you understand why a particular option is being recommended, reasonable alternatives, potential risks and limitations, and what to expect during recovery.
Provider Expertise & Treatment Rationale
Provider Qualifications: Who will perform my treatment or procedure, and what are their qualifications, board certifications or relevant certifications, and experience with this specific treatment?
Treatment Rationale: Why is this treatment or procedure being recommended for my anatomy, condition, and goals?
Alternative Approaches: Are there less invasive, non-surgical, or other appropriate alternatives I should understand before deciding?
Evidence & Innovation: What evidence supports the recommended treatment, and is any part of it considered emerging, experimental, or primarily wellness-focused?
Procedure, Risks & Safety
Anesthesia & Sedation: Will anesthesia or sedation be required, and who will administer and monitor it?
Treatment Facility: Where will the procedure be performed, and what medical support is available should a complication occur?
Risks & Limitations: What are the potential risks, side effects, contraindications, complications, and limitations associated with the treatment?
Realistic Expectations: What results may be reasonable based on my individual anatomy, health, age, and circumstances?
Expectations & Readiness
Why Now: What is motivating me to consider this procedure at this point in my life?
What Do I Expect to Change: Are my expectations focused on the physical outcome, or am I hoping the procedure will change other areas of my life?
Recovery Readiness: Am I prepared for temporary swelling, bruising, reduced activity, uncertainty, or changes in appearance while healing?
Support: Do I have the practical and emotional support I may need during recovery?
Independent Guidance: Would speaking privately with an appropriately qualified body-image or mental-health professional help me explore my expectations before making a final decision?
For clients considering major elective aesthetic surgery, Heal Before Home offers a private Readiness & Expectations Consultation with an independent, appropriately qualified professional before the HBH surgical journey begins.
Recovery, Travel & Follow-Up
Recovery Timeline: What should I expect during recovery, and how long should I plan to remain near the treating provider?
Travel Readiness: When will my treating team determine that I am ready to fly or undertake long-distance travel?
Follow-Up Planning: What follow-up will be required before and after I return home?
Post-Treatment Concerns: Who should I contact if I have questions or develop a clinical concern after treatment?
Understanding Your Options Matters
A reputable provider should be able to explain the available treatment options, reasonable alternatives, expected benefits and limitations, potential risks, recovery requirements, and realistic outcomes while giving you sufficient time to make an informed decision.
